The Lord Gave The Word: Great Was The Company Of Those That Published It.
An exhortation to encourage and stimulate the promotion of the reading and meditation of the Word of God among all nations.
“The Lord gave the Word: great was the company of those that published it.”
Psalm 68:11
One of the numbing griefs experienced when bringing Christian doctrines and strands of truth to others is their want of intimacy and acquaintance with the Scriptures. Although many of these may say that they have been Christians for a long long time and that they are regularly going to church, they seem to be ignorant of, or at best unskilful in, the entire realm and range of the Scriptures.
A considerable number of them are particularly all at sea when it comes to the Old Testament. Many of these, brought up and cultured under the heretical school of Dispensationalism, also reckon that the Old Testament is not relevant and practical in the Gospel dispensation. They pay lip service to the plenary inspiration and the absolute authority of the Holy Scriptures and nullify and make void the doctrine in the application thereof.
It is very difficult to buttress our arguments and teachings of the doctrines of grace without evincing citations and references from the Scriptures. Hence a sense of forlornness and futility tend to overpower us when we realise people are not conversant nor familiar with the Scriptures.
The endeavour to support our preaching or teaching with Scriptural corroboration will almost be in vain when our audience is largely unaccustomed to the Scriptures. If ever people are going to be convinced of our instructions, augmented in their faith with true doctrines, convicted of the host of their errors and constantly corrected, it is necessary and vital that they know the Scriptures reasonably well. Indeed the better we know the Scriptures, the less likely we are bound to go awry.
This is precisely why modern Babylon prohibited her members from reading the Scriptures during the Dark Ages. She was riddled with errors and she did not want her people to know about them through the reading of the Scriptures. Imagine how great a darkness it was when the light of Scriptures was prevented from illuminating the souls of men!
Wherefore it is safe to assume that if ever people are furnished to repent, to be spiritually revived and reformed, then they must be at home with the Scriptures. A good awareness and knowledgeableness of the Holy Scriptures will brace everyone well for the future.
If the nations are to be fertilised and to dispose themselves for a revival, it must first begin with their people getting acquainted with the Scriptures.
“The Lord gave the Word: great was the company of those that published it” (Psalm 68:11).
This is exactly why we are promoting the daily reading of the Bible. May Almighty God and the Father of our Lord Yeshua Christ bless and prosper our feeble endeavours. In Christ’s Name, Amen.
Our Bible reading scheme facilitates the study of the whole Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, within a calendar year. When this scheme is faithfully adhered to in consecutive years, it will make people ready and fallow for restoration and salvation.
For “the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Yeshua” (II Timothy 3:15b).
“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple” (Psalm 19:7).
The mastery of Scriptures will also help nurture Christian character and virtues of grace.
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (II Timothy 3:16,17).
“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to Thy Word” (Psalm 119:9).
It is imperative for young people to be nourished and schooled in the Scriptures thoroughly, if ever they are going to be reliable, sound and upright. Parents who in anxiety and tears drill their children in the Scriptures right from their infancy are most likely to reap a harvest of joy when the children grow up. They will see the image and likeness of Christ stamped upon the souls of their children in the latter years.
Distributing the Bible reading scheme for the calendar year boosts the holy discipline of reading the Scriptures daily. We ought also to encourage those who are given the scheme in the consistent and uninterrupted employment of it. We do so especially by enumerating on all the benefits, blessings and beatitudes it would wrought upon them when they read the Scriptures in faith and diligence.
Therefore it becomes us, who endeavour to disseminate the scheme effectually for the salvation and perfection of all men and nations, to speak of the profit, advantages and bounty that the meditation and delight of the Holy Scriptures can generate.
To promote the Word of God among all nations, we ought to recommend, popularise and stimulate this holy habit among many. May God grant us the acumen, vision and zeal to advocate and encourage men to study the Bible diligently. We ought to tell men to be well versed in the Scriptures.
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth” (II Timothy 2:15).
It is through the blood of the holy martyrs that we have the privilege to hold the Authorised Version in our hands. Right from the inception of time, Satan beguiled our first parents with his distorted version of the Word of God.
“Yea, hath God said? … Ye shall not surely die” (Genesis 3:1b, 4b).
It was Eve’s want of acquaintance with the Scriptures that made her vulnerable to Satan’s version and lie. Satan’s principal strategy is to deprive men of salvation by depriving them of the Word of God. Now Satan is still at it in assaulting the Word of God. He has done so primarily by introducing a plethora of bogus versions and translations.
But through the infinite power and singular care of God, He has preserved for us the Word of God. Thanks be to God also, even through the faithful translation into the lingua franca of the world today, we are able to enjoy the Word of God in the English language.
Wherefore let us not slacken in our efforts to promote the reading of the Authorised Version, which was virtually translated single handedly by William Tyndale (AD 1494-1535). Tyndale was eventually burned by the cruel aristocrats of the Church of England (being a daughter of the Mother of harlots, even Babylon the Great (Revelation 17:5)). Little wonder the manuscripts that were used as the base and source to produce the glut of corrupted versions came from the premises of modern Babylon. Can anything good come from this defiled institution (Revelation 18:2)?
Wherefore let us ask men to avoid reading the flawed and fouled versions lest their diligence be in vain. O brethren, let us rally to persuade men to flee from the snare of noisome fowlers and to read the Word of God which is able to quicken and save them from the eternal wrath of God.
For the Word of God is a sure compass for our lives.
“Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105).
It is afforded graciously by Him Who has created us and given us all things.
“Man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live” (Deuteronomy 8:3b).
Now the eternal God would urge us to be wise unto salvation by faith in His eternal Son at the ambience of preaching (fidel exegesis and exposition) and through the reading of the Word of God.
